Salem’s First Escape Game opens in latest entertainment trend

Escape Key brings the Bebout’s experience with escape games across the country to the Roanoke Valley.

Salem’s first escape game experience comes when Escape Key opens on Memorial Day weekend.

In the experience economy, people are looking for new and memorable ways to enjoy themselves, and Escape Key offers a fun experience for anyone who wants to challenge their puzzle solving skills. The game masters set up rooms full of puzzles that, if solved in an hour, lead to the discovery of the escape key and the way out, making it the first escape game in the valley where players will actually escape. If you’re worried the game might be too difficult, never fear: your game masters are there to help.

“We believe our job as game masters is to collaborate with the people who come to Escape Key to create a fun and enjoyable experience. We’re not there to frustrate you, we’re not there to mislead you; The puzzles are there to challenge you and we’re there to give you a hand.” said Will Bebout, co-owner and founder of Escape Key. He and his wife Emily decided to start Escape Key after doing 30+ escape rooms across the country and wanting to bring their passion and expertise home to Salem.

The Roanoke Valley is growing, and with Virginia Tech investing in their Roanoke campus and Deschutes Brewing company setting up shop in downtown, more people are coming to our valley, and they’re going to want something more to enjoy on their nights and weekends. Escape Key will answer that call by providing a place where people can spend time with their friends, or make new ones, as they challenge their mind and body in a collaborative and active space.

Escape Key will be having a soft opening on Memorial Day weekend, on Saturday, May 27 with a grand opening planned for Friday, June 2. They are located in Mill Lane Commons, at 1334 W Main St Salem, next to Sheetz and across from Chick-Fil-A. Parking is right out front and free of charge.
