The Salem High lacrosse teams had little trouble with Conference 24 rival William Fleming on Monday, taking easy wins in both the girls and boys games. The girls won 14-1 and the boys took a 22-2 win.

Salem girls’ coach Maggi Pace pulled her starters at halftime with a big lead. First time scorers this season included Tanner Rowe and Cecile Barker with two goals each and Danielle Rich scored her first as well.  Phoebe Stevens recorded an assist and had nine ground balls to keep the ball at our offense.

For the boys Will Poldiak had four goals and three assists to lead the Spartans. Seth Lemon had three goals and an assist and Peyton Woodward played a strong game in goal.

“It was good to get the win and be able to play a lot of the younger guys,” said coach Daniel Dyer. “We did some really good things and were able to finish when it counted.”

Last Thursday in Salem it was a little tougher as the Spartans took on Patrick Henry. The girls won, 17-5, but the boys went down to defeat, 15-3.

“We had anticipated a much closer game because PH lost to Hidden Valley by a goal just like we had,” said girls’ coach Maggi Pace. “We got out from the start and were able to stay in control the whole game. All of the girls got time on the field and we were able to work on some plays and our draw controls.”

Lilly Blair and Libby Bowman led the scoring with five goals a piece.  Maggie Crute led the defense with three ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The boys got one goal each from Anthony Migliarese, Trent Cheyney and Evan McMillan.

“Patrick Henry is a good team,” said Dyer. “We had too many mistakes that they were able to capitalize on. We have to improve if we want to make a strong run later in the season.”

The boys and girls were both 5-2 after Monday’s wins over Fleming, and the boys were scheduled to play Liberty Christian Academy on Wednesday of this week. After that, neither team will play again until April 22nd when both go to Monticello.
