Congressman Morgan Griffith accepts debate invitations

Congressman Morgan Griffith recently announced that he will participate in debates organized by three of the 9th District’s most respected organizations. These debates will allow voters to see where the candidates for Congress stand on the key issues facing the region.

The Salem-Roanoke Chamber of Commerce, the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and WVVA, an NBC network affiliate television station in Bluefield, are organizing debates between Rep. Griffith and his opponent. These debates will occur in October. Once the Democrats nominate their candidate, organizers will work with the campaigns to finalize dates and other details.

“I am honored to participate in the debates being organized by the Salem-Roanoke Chamber, the Bristol Chamber and on WVVA,” said Griffith. “I hope that the Democrat nominee for Congress accepts their invitation once it is offered following the Democrat primary next week. These debates will ensure voters in all major media markets covering the 9th District have the opportunity to see and hear the real policy differences between me and the Democrat nominee.”

“I am looking forward to these debates, I am proud to talk about my record in Congress and the positive impact it is having on local families and business,” Griffith continued. “I have seen the results first-hand as I have traveled the district east to west and north to south. Due to less burdensome regulations and tax cuts, more jobs are being announced in the district and there is more money in the pockets of 9th District residents. I am proud of having voted in favor of a bill that has such a major impact on my district.”

“I also have every intention of using these debates to hold my Democrat opponent accountable for opposing the policies that have resulted in the current economic growth and allowed local workers to keep more of what they earn,” Griffith noted. “He will have to do more than simply bash President Trump like a broken record in order to credibly explain his support for Nancy Pelosi’s agenda to repeal the The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act—the tax cut she called ‘crumbs.’ I will push for my opponent to make clear why he wants to take back the money that is helping 9th District residents buy groceries, make car payments or cool their houses this summer.”
