The Glenvar boys’ basketball team ended 2016 on a high note, beating Group 3A Lord Botetourt to improve to 5-4 on the season. The Highlanders took a 60-47 win at GHS last week.
The win was the fifth in the last six games for Glenvar after the boys opened the season with three losses. The Highlanders are starting to hit their stride, and last week against LB they were on fire from the floor. Glenvar shot 55 percent on field goals, including 50 percent on threes, and shot 83 percent from the free throw line.
“What really pleased me is that we outscored them 32-26 in the paint, and they have a pretty big team,” said Glenvar coach David Redding. “And we only had seven turnovers. We played well.”
Glenvar led by 10 at the half, 27-17, and won every quarter. Hank Conner and Logan Williams had 16 points each to lead Glenvar while Noah Duncan had 15.
“That’s the way I like to see it, with good balance,” said Redding, who then added with a chuckle, “it just goes to show you if you hit your shots, you’ll win.”
Noah Lovelance led Glenvar with six rebounds while Conner and Williams combined for eight assists, with Hank dishing out five. It was a solid all-around game for Glenvar, who will now take a break until January 3rd against Radford at GHS.
“That will be a big one,” said Redding.
