It was a big week for the Salem High tennis teams last week as both the boys and girls picked up wins over both Lord Botetourt and Pulaski County.

On Thursday the boys edged LB in Salem, 5-4, with Logan Butcher and Dev Patel pulling out tight singles matches at two and six. Salem was without number one Drew Perez but Chance Long and Jack Dixon picked up the slack with singles wins at three and five as the Spartans pulled out the win.

The girls were at Hollins University to play LB last Thursday and they won 8-1. Salem swept the singles with Claire Rawlins, Caroline Loveday, Mira Makked, Josephine Eaton, Elisa Nguyen and Christine Burr.

On Friday the boys were home and they shut out Pulaski County, 9-0. Alan Burr, Dixon, Patel and Evan Graybill all won 8-0 in singles to pace the win.

The girls were in Dublin to play the Cougars and they won 6-1 with two matches cancelled by rain. Salem was missing several girls but had no trouble defeating the Cougars to pick up the win.

This Friday the Salemites will take on Cave Spring with the boys at home and the girls at Cave Spring.
