It was a tough week for the football folks last week and I’m not just talkin’ about Brent Pry. Only a couple contests had as few as three wrong in a very tough week to pick the games.
Our winner came down to the high point total, and it was Jean Dillman. Her only misses were picking Grundy over Giles, Blacksburg over Floyd and the Hokies. She got all the pro games correct, and that’s a tough thing to do. Several contestants had three wrong, but Jean was closest to the high point total of 52 by the Detroit Lions. She’ll be roaring at Mac & Bob’s in the near future with a $50 gift certificate.
For our “19th Hole” question I asked you to pick the score of the Tennessee-Georgia game, and it was a good one. Georgia won 44-41 in overtime and both our Salem grads played in the game. See my column on page 11 for details.
Most of you picked a low-scoring game, and that just wasn’t the case. The closest to the actual score was Salem’s Tyler Shannon who picked the Bulldogs to win 31-24. Woof, Woof!
Tyler is on the Glenvar golf team so I’ll bet he’s played the sand greens on Academy Street at one time or another. Thanks to last week’s prediction he’ll get a full day of free golf, as many holes as he can play before dark. And, I assume he can even play after dark if he has enough balls.
For this week’s 19th hole give me your prediction on the big Glenvar at Northside game Friday night. Two Roanoke County schools going at it with 3-0 records, both green!!
Give me your prediction in the space on the entry blank provided and the closest to the actual score gets a free day of golf.
And as for Brent Pry, I sort of felt bad for him because he seems like a nice guy. Then I see he gets 6.8 million dollars to leave and that has to help a little bit. I’d leave the Salem Times-Register today if someone offered me half that.
