The Salem RidgeYaks are back home this week hoping to move back into first place in the second half standings of the Carolina League’s North Division. Salem will play the Wilson Warbirds, a Milwaukee Brewers farm team, for six games beginning Tuesday at Salem Memorial Ballpark.
The Sox were in first place prior to last week’s series in Salisbury, Md. against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Salem dropped four of six games to the Shorebirds including the last two of the series, 7-3 on Saturday and 8-5 on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers took five of six from Fredericksburg in North Carolina to move past the Yaks into first place. Coming into Tuesday’s games, the Woodpeckers led the division with a 26-20 second half record. Wilson is now in second place at 24-21, and Salem has dropped to third, two and a half games behind Fayetteville at 24-23.
This week the Woodpeckers are at Myrtle Beach, followed by a big seven-game series with Salem in Fayetteville beginning next Tuesday, August 25. That will include a makeup game from an August 9 rainout when the ‘peckers were in Salem. The RidgeYaks will serve as the home team in the second game of a doubleheader in Fayetteville next Wednesday, August 26.
This week’s promotions include Hockey Night tonight and Racing Night on Friday with a diecast car giveaway to the first 1,000 fans. It’s also fireworks night on Friday.
Saturday is Military Appreciation Night and it’s another giveaway. The first 750 fans will receive a special commemorative bobblehead honoring Yaks’ General Manager Allen Lawrence. The limited-edition bobblehead celebrates Lawrence’s recent induction into the Salem-Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame on February 1, 2026, recognizing his longtime impact on professional baseball in the Roanoke Valley and Southwest Virginia.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate Allen and all he has meant to baseball in Salem and the Roanoke Valley,” said Assistant General Manager Blair Hoke. “This bobblehead is a fun and meaningful way for our fans and community to recognize his lasting contributions to our organization and the game of baseball.”
