Students at Fort Lewis Elementary School now know much more about America’s founders and the American Constitution, thanks to efforts of members of the Fort Lewis Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The chapter made and presented gift bags containing treats and miniature copies of the U.S. Constitution to 50 fourth graders in recognition of Constitution Week Sept. 17-24.
Cynthia McKinney, DAR District VII Vice Director and Recording Secretary, and member Seyward McKinney presented the bags to Fort Lewis Elementary Principal Kim Hires Smith.
Chapter members, led by Cynthia McKinney, also prepared a bulletin board for Constitution Week at the Salem Public Library.
Last week Salem City Council proclaimed the week Constitution Week.
Nine DAR members received the proclamation from Salem Mayor Renee Turk.
