
Salem Police Department Capt. Sean Slusser graduated last week from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, joining 11 current or former members of the department who also have completed the prestigious law enforcement training program.
Slusser serves as an Administrative Services captain and a member of the department’s executive staff. He has more than 23 years of law enforcement experience, including 19 years with the city of Salem.
During his career with the department, Slusser has served in a variety of leadership and operational roles, including patrol officer, special investigations detective, general detective, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, patrol lieutenant and services lieutenant.
The 299th session of the FBI National Academy included 265 law enforcement officers from 44 states and the District of Columbia. The graduating class also included 29 international law enforcement members representing agencies from 28 countries, as well as members of five military organizations and four federal civilian organizations.
Established in 1935, the FBI National Academy provides advanced investigative, management and fitness training to senior law enforcement officers who have demonstrated leadership within their organizations.
The program includes undergraduate and graduate-level college courses in areas such as law, behavioral and forensic science, terrorism and leadership development. The academy also provides opportunities for participants to build professional relationships with law enforcement officials from across the country and around the world.
Slusser is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s National Criminal Justice Command College and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Liberty University. He is a Certified Law Enforcement Command Executive Officer through the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police and is a recipient of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award.
