The annual LewisGale Salem Half Marathon will be held through the streets of Salem this Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.. An 8K and kids run are also offered for the 10th anniversary of an event that was first held on October 15, 2016.
The races will start at the Salem Farmers’ Market, as usual. There is currently construction on Main Street at that location, but it will be cleaned up for the race on Saturday so the runners can start at their normal spot.
The Half Marathon and Virginia’s Blue Ridge 8K will take the gun at 8 a.m. followed by the G&H Contracting Kids 2 Mile Fun Run at 8:05 a.m. A one mile fun run for kids will start at 8:10 a.m., also sponsored by G&H Contracting.
The races start and finish at the Farmers’ Market and take the competitors on a scenic tour of Salem. The course winds through neighborhoods, the YMCA, the Taliaferro Complex, Roanoke College and the downtown business district.
People driving through Salem on Saturday should be aware of road closures, which can be found on the LewisGale Salem Half Marathon website. There will also be areas that will be marked “No Parking.”
