Maroon men 3rd, women 8th in ODAC track

Kerri Dalton and Mara Briggs of Roanoke College each won individual ODAC Championships while the women’s team finished third and the men in eighth in last week’s conference meet at Washington & Lee University in Lexington. Bridgewater College won the women’s team championship and host W&L won the men’s title.

Briggs opened the meet Friday with a high jump mark of 1.63 to capture the ODAC crown. Dalton won the 10,000m race with a time of 38:13.67, a full 20 seconds better than the second-place runner. In that same race, Ellen Bauer placed fourth overall with a time of 40:56.02. Dalton also finished fourth in the 500m with a time of 18:21.90

Claire Aurand finished third in the 100m with a time of 12.88, then finished second in the 200m with a time of 26.36. Brynn MacDougall was fourth in 200m, clocking in at 26.82 and was second in the 400m with a time of 59.18.

Claire Brooks (12:04.24) and Caity Ashley (12:04.79) were third and fourth, respectively in the 3000m steeplechase, while Brittany Mallette was six in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:12.15.

Paige Olausen was second in the javelin with a throw of 34.63m and Jayna Jean-Jules was fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 38.61m.

On the men’s side, Mykal Dawkins placed sixth in the 400m with a time of 51.25 and was sixth in the 400m hurdles (59.88) after setting a personal best in the prelims.

Howard Daniels ran the 10,000m in a time of 33:44.74 which was good for sixth-place overall.

Dillon Kopec was second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.00m, while David Flowers (41.08m) and Lucas Jones (36.60m) were fifth and eighth, respectively in the hammer throw.

Roanoke will return to action on April 28-29 at the Highlander Invitational at Radford.
