The Andrew Lewis Middle School sports teams finished up their season in the past week with games against Glenvar. The baseball team and both soccer teams beat the Highlanders while Glenvar’s girls won in softball.
BASEBALL
The Wolverines took a 16-1 win in baseball at Kiwanis Field last week. Trenton Bower got the win and several Wolverines paced the successful day at the plate. The win gave the Lewis Nine a 6-4-1 record on a season that was expected to be a rebuilding year.
“We say goodbye to our team leaders, two-year veteran eighth graders Trenton Bower, Adam Warren, Chip Stephenson and Brady Torian, and one-year players, Conner Fletcher and Jack Routt, who gave us our energy and experience,” said coach Greg Gallion. “These young men have been more than ball players, they have been brothers. We wish them all the best as they become Spartans. They’ll be missed.”
SOFTBALL
In softball Glenvar finished off an undefeated season with a 6-1 win as Lewis finished 4-7.
“We had a rough few games but we overcame a lot and worked hard and enjoy each other’s company,” said AL coach Morgan Davis. “You win some and lose some and a lot of the games were close. Some we pulled out and some we didn’t, but that’s okay because they worked hard and tried their best.
“I loved coaching these girls and working with everyone. It definitely will be a memory that lasts a lifetime and won’t forget it.”
BOYS SOCCER
The AL boys soccer team beat Glenvar, 8-0, to complete an undefeated season at 12-0. Lewis outscored the opposition 56-9 on the season with 12 different eighth graders scoring. The leading offensive players were Rocky Palotas (13 goals, no assists) and Kaleb Ray (10 goals, 4 assists), and seventh graders combined for three goals and five assists.
The defense was anchored by the play of Captains Luis Geyne and Will Clemens, and center backs Gaven Conner and John Wallace.
“We will be sending a loaded eighth grade group to the high school and they will be missed greatly next year,” said coach Perry Manning.
The Andrew Lewis Middle School Girls’ Soccer Team finished their season Monday with a 3-0 win over Glenvar at Green Hill Park.
“The girls put a bow on their season with a great win against Glenvar,” said assistant coach Bob Palleria. “As a team, the girls have gotten better and better all season. The call for the girls to move the ball around the field, limit touches, and play good, fast soccer has been answered.”
After the first three games of the season, the girls had one win, one loss and a tie. However, the girls were able to finish off the season with a 9-0 run, which brings their season record to 10-1-1.
