William Fleming was the site of the 52^nd annual Cosmopolitan Invitational Track meet last weekend and it was a big time for some Salem and Glenvar athletes. The Salem Senior girls finished second in the meet.

Senior Division titles went to the William Fleming boys and Pulaski County girls while Junior titles, for ninth and 10 graders, went to the Northside boys and Christiansburg girls. Blacksburg won the girls’ middle school championship and Read Mountain won the boys’ title.

Salem’s girls finished with 62 points in the Senior Division, just seven and a half points behind Pulaski. Among the scorers for Salem were Mia Cromer with a first in the high jump and Hannah Moran with a second in the 1600. Tawni Hunt was third in the 400, Angie Orange was fourth in the 100 hurdles, Addila Athuman was fifth in both the 100 and 300 hurdles and Raniyah Majied was sixth in the 800.

In the relay events Salem took two seconds. Majied, Ellie Look, Izzy Donahue and Caroline Stephenson ran the 4×800 and Look, Raniyah, Donahue and Hunt ran the 4×400.

Salem also took second in the Junior Division girls, well behind Christiansburg. Anae Blakeney won the 100 and 200, setting a new meet record in the 200. She also won the Long Jump and was awarded the Outstanding Female Runner award.

Te’Arah Thomas took second in the 100 hurles and fifth in the 100. Selma Marunica was third in the shot put and sixth in the discus.

The Salem boys had two scorers. Sean Tyree was fifth in the 400 in the Senior Division and Reid Burton was third in the shot put and fifth in the discus in the Junior Division.

Glenvar’s boys were sixth in the Senior Division and second in the Junior Division. Kilian McCroskey won the Senior Division 100 and took second in the 200, while Dustin Wade was fourth in the 800.

In the Junior Divison, Chris Herrington won the 100 and took second in the 200. TJ Moorman won the high jump and was third in the 110 hurdles and Brady Loder was fourth in the 200 and fifth in the Triple Jump.

“This is a first for Glenvar track and I couldn’t be more proud,” said Glenvar coach Neil Swanson of the second place finish by the 9^th and 10^th grade GHS boys.

The Glenvar girls finished eighth in both the Senior and Junior Divisions. Rachel Milirons took first in the 3200 and 1600 for the Senior Division and she’s just a sophomore. Terrica Moorman was second in the Senior Division 300 Hurdles and second in the High Jump.

In the Junior Division, Abby Cairns was third in the 400 and fourth in the Triple Jump. Logan Dunkenberger was fourth in both the 100 and 200.

In the Middle School Division Glenvar’s boys were 10^th and Andrew Lewis was 14^th. The Lewis girls were fourth and Glenvar was sixth.

The Lewis girls were led by Kalei Memmer who won the discus and took fourth in the shot put. Kalei also broke the school record for the discus earlier in the season.

Tiffany McLaughlin was the champion in the high jump and Lina Prillaman took fifth. Emma Chamberland was fourth in the 1600 and 800 meter runs while Neelah Logan got fourth in the 200 meter dash. Kaitlyn Crumpacker, Mariah Gahl, Kaitlyn Creger, and Chrissy Cummings all placed on relay teams.

The boys were led by Carlos Alleyne who took sixth in the 300 meter hurdles.

That ended the season for the Middle School teams. The Salem and Glenvar High School teams are scheduled to run in the Knights Invitational at Cave Spring High this Saturday.
