Alex Abbott digs one out in last week’s scrimmage at Glenvar.

The Salem and Glenvar volleyball teams scrimmaged each other at Glenvar last week with the fall season approaching.  Both teams are looking forward to good seasons.

Salem’s second scrimmage was scheduled for Wednesday of this week at Franklin County while Glenvar is at Parry McCluer today. Both teams open the regular season next Tuesday, August 22, with Salem hosting Liberty Christian Academy and Glenvar playing at Covington.

Salem coach Russ Danstrom has six returning players, including first team All-Conference 24 players Telia Harris and Janae Blakeney and second team All Conference 24 player Tori Clinevell. Clinevell led us in serve receive accuracy last season while Blakeney and Harris led in kills.

Returning seniors Maddie Bowman, Grace Hedge and Alex Abbott bring varsity experience from last season’s Conference Champion team. Rising juniors and sophomores will round out the team and the jayvee team has many returning players that will be joined by a solid class of rising freshmen.

Glenvar coach Basil Conner has three returning seniors with Allison Clark, Abbey Fletcher and Aislinn Kerr.  Returning juniors with varsity experience are Hannah Green, Maggie Rubble and Kiera Omberg.

Green led Glenvar in kills last year and was second team All-Conference 38. The rest of the varsity team is filled out with five juniors from a solid jayvee team from last year.

“We will be tested with a very strong schedule as we will be playing against several 3A and 4A teams this season,” said Conner.
