Fredy Flores’ goal just over a minute into overtime lifted Lynchburg College to a 1-0 win over Roanoke College in ODAC soccer action Saturday night in Salem.
The Maroons had several chances to go up in first half. In the 15th minute, Brandon Bauer hooked a free kick that forced LC goalkeeper Dylan McLaurin to make a sprawling save to keep RC off the board.
The score remained 0-0 through halftime. Roanoke had another opportunity to score when Jon-Cody Mactutus rifled a free kick off the crossbar, just missing a goal.
In the extra period, LC took a corner kick that Flores collected in the box and was able to head the ball off the cross-bar. The ball went just over the line to give LC the win.
Roanoke outshot Lynchburg 13-9 and had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. McLaurin finished with six saves, including five in the first-half of play to keep Roanoke off the scoreboard. Nick Tadros made a pair of saves for Roanoke.
The Maroons, now 5-4-1, dropped a 3-1 decision to Oglethorpe Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. Roanoke is back home Saturday to host Virginia Wesleyan at 6 pm.
