The Salem High indoor team finally had its first meet of the season at Liberty University last Saturday. There were 39 schools competing in the big meet.
Salem girls who placed included Janae Blakeney with a first in the long jump, fifth in the 300 and a sixth in the 55 meters. ShaCoya Price was third in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump while the 4×400 relay team of Berkeley Wall, Raniyah Majied, Haley Fedison and Blakeney) placed eighth.
For the boys, Jeremiah Wilson took fourth in the hurdles, running his best time in the trials and then bettering that in the finals. Others who ran included Alijah Morris, Carlos Allyene, Cameron Sutley, Amarri Edwards, Gaven Conner, Zach Hoyer, Elijah Hairston, Adam Warren, Benjiman Rowland, and Benji Ashwell.
“The guys did a great job and many ran or performed a personal best at the meet,” said coach Jason Sells. “Compared to some of their times at the Blacksburg scrimmage we have already seen a lot of improvements and we hope it continues throughout this season. We had several new guys on the team and with them and our veterans they did great for the first meet.”
The Spartans will be back at Liberty University for a meet in Lynchburg today.
