Jeremy Muncy won his weight class when the Salem High wrestling team competed in the Knights of the Round Table Tournament last Friday and Saturday at Cave Spring High School.
Muncy took first place despite moving up a class to 113. He was one of five Spartans who placed, as Salem finished ninth among 16 teams entered. Host Cave Spring won the tournament.
Others who place for the Spartans included Christian Crawley with a fifth at 132 and three Spartans who took sixth, Walker Chambers at 106, Preston Saunders at 145 and David Bebut at 285.
Salem will now take a break until after Christmas. The Ironmen return to compete in the Big Orange at William Byrd on December 29 and 30.
“We’re looking forward to a weekend off to heal up and can’t wait to compete over break at the Big Orange,” said Salem coach Lawrence Van Liew. “We’re still waiting on a few football players to help make us a little more competitive in the wrestling room, and the different tournaments.”
Glenvar was off last weekened, returning Wednesday for a tri-match with Lord Botetourt and James River at Lord Botetourt High School in Daleville.
