Maroons will swim at the Salem YMCA Saturday

The Roanoke College swim team will host a meet at the Salem YMCA this Saturday, beginning at 4 pm. Roanoke will host Greensboro and Randolph Macon.

Last Saturday at Hollins University the Maroons competed against Greensboro, Guilford and host Hollins, and swept the competition in both the men’s and women’s meets. The men beat Greensboro, 107-48, and the women beat Guilford, 132-33, Greensboro, 129-29 and Hollins, 102-77.

The Women kicked off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay as Reilly Bird, Sarah Virginia Scott, Tessa Kenney and Phoebe Coburn clocked a 2:00.69. Hannah Sells followed suit with a first-place finish of her own in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 19:46.44. On the men’s side, Jacob David finished atop the leaderboards with an 18:49.87. Tanner Debord finished first in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:56.63 before finishing first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:34.01.

Nick McGrath finished the 50-yard freestyle with a first-place time of 22.35 before a top time of 50.13 in the 100-yard freestyle. David Adarkwah and Jorge Jara Lopez rounded out the top-three finishes in the 100 freestyle with a 53.18 and a 55.97, respectively. Bird clocked a 25.96 in the 100 freestyle followed by a 2:18.53 in the 200 backstroke for a pair of top finishes.

Scott and Margaret Riggan took the top spots in the 200 yard IM with a 2:26.01 and a 2:29.43, respectively. Scott then went on to win the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:35.49. In the 200 backstroke, Logan Cale took first with a time of 2:12.89.

RC capped the day with a pair of wins in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Francisca Cifuentes, Riggan, Coburn and Sells finished in 8:57.59. McGrath, Jara-Lopez, Ethan Gordon and David finished in 7:57.82.
