The Salem High indoor track team had a busy weekend with athletes at two different meets. Spartans participated in both the Milestat Showcase Meet at Liberty University and the Wally Gilbert meet at Heritage High.
Janae Blakeney competed in three events at the Showcase Meet, the 55 meter dash, the 300 meter dash and the invitational long jump. Shacoya Price was in the open long jump and triple jump and placed fourth in the triple jump.
At the Wally Gilbert meet the girls’ 4×800 relay team of Raniyah Majied, Alexis Stover, Samantha Richardson and Emma Chamberland took second. Chamberland was also fourth in the 1,600 and Stover was third in the 3,200.
The relay team of Majied, Berkley Wall, Haley Fedison and Zaujia Athuman was fifth in the 4×400, and Mia Cromer took a fifth in the high jump.
For the boys, Jeremiah Wilson competed in the Milestat Showcase meet in 55 hurdles, the long jump and the 300 meter run.
“He did great and wasn’t far from his personal bests in all those events,” said coach Jason Sells. “He placed 23rd overall in the hurdles that had a total of 67 competitors.”
The rest of the team competed in the Wally Gilbert Invitational. Amarri Edwards was 13th in the 300 while Gaven Conner took 12th in the 1,600 and 13th in the 500.
This week the Spartans have a meet in Blacksburg.
