The Emory & Henry College women’s basketball team won for the ninth straight outing last Saturday afternoon, eliminating the possibility for a tie at the top of the standings and securing the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. There were, however, three other ties that helped shape the tournament field.
Two of the three deadlocks were sorted thru head-to-head tiebreakers. That started with the second seed where Randolph-Macon College’s two wins over Lynchburg College in the regular season awarded the Yellow Jackets the higher position. The Hornets sit third, with Guilford College rounding out the teams earning a bye thru the first round as the fourth seed.
Tournament play began Monday with four first round contests. Bridgewater beat Roanoke College, 86-68, Virginia Wesleyan topped Randolph, 60-46, Washington & Lee beat Hollins, 75-44, and Shenandoah topped Eastern Mennonite in the only first round upset, 76-68.
Those four winners will join the top four seeds in Salem at the Salem Civic Center for the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 22. Semifinals will be on Saturday, February 24, followed by the championship game on Sunday, February 25.
