The Virginia High School League spring sports season officially gets underway next week and there’s a full slate of action for Salem and Glenvar teams.
On Monday the Salem baseball and softball teams open with games against William Fleming. The baseball game will be at Kiwanis Field at 5 pm and the softball team is at Fleming at 5 pm. The Salem boys’ soccer team opens Monday evening with a jayvee-varsity doubleheader against Franklin County, with the jayvees kicking off at 5:30 pm.
Both Glenvar tennis teams open play Monday against William Byrd, with the boys at home and the Highland girls in Vinton.
Andrew Lewis Middle School has two soccer games Monday against Hidden Valley, with the boys at home and the girls at Hidden Valley. The Wolverines’ softball team is also at Hidden Valley.
On Tuesday the Salem baseball and softball teams are in action again, this time against Lord Botetourt. The baseball team is at Kiwanis Field and the softball team will play LB in Daleville.
Glenvar’s softball team will open the season Tuesday with a game at Hidden Valley, the first for new coach Lonnie Raines. Glenvar’s soccer teams will take on Galax in a doubleheader Tuesday at Highlander Stadium, with the girls at 5:30 pm and the boys at 7 pm.
On Wednesday, March 14, Salem lacrosse teams will open with a girls-boys doubleheader at Western Albemarle. Glenvar’s baseball team opens the season with a home game against Covington and the softball team is at Covington. The Glenvar tennis teams play Northside, with the boys at home and the girls at Walrond Park.
The Andrew Lewis Middle School baseball team will have a home game against Hidden Valley next Wednesday. The Wolverine track team is home for a meet at the Salem High track.
A week from today, on March 15, the Salem girls’ soccer team opens the season at St. Catherine’s in Goochland. Glenvar’s soccer teams host Parry McCluer for a doubleheader and Lewis has a full slate of action, with the baseball team home to Franklin County and the softball team at Franklin County. The Wolverines soccer teams play Central Academy, with the girls at home and boys in Botetourt County.
Finally, next Friday March 16, Salem’s baseball team is at William Byrd and the Terriers are here for softball. Salem’s boys’ soccer team is at Lord Botetourt and Glenvar’s only game finds the baseball team at Staunton River.
