Lynchburg College battled to a 15-12 win over Roanoke last Friday afternoon in and ODAC women’s lacrosse game in Salem.
Roanoke was led by Katie Clements, who had four goals. Ellie Armstrong and Mckenna Polak each had three goals. Clements had five draw control wins and Lainey Decker had four. Emma Boris had four caused turnovers to go along with four groundballs.
Clements scored twice in a row, then an Armstrong goal made it 6-6 with 10 minutes to go in the half. The teams would exchange goals with the Maroons taking a 9-8 edge on a Clements goal with 59 seconds to play. LC closed the half with two goals in the final 35 seconds to take a 10-9 lead at the break.
The Hornets scored three of the first four goals of the second half, pushing ahead 13-10 when Kelsey Nock converted a free-position attempt with 18:22 to go in the game. Armstrong cut the LC lead to 13-11 with a goal at the 11:29 mark but the Hornets scored twice down the stretch to seal the game.
Carly Schoudel made 10 saves for Roanoke and Chelsea Shultis had five stops for LC.
The loss dropped the Maroons to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference prior to a Wednesday evening game with Randolph-Macon. Roanoke is at Bridgewater Saturday.
