The Andrew Lewis Middle School teams have a full schedule today with all five teams set to play.
The baseball team is at Cave Spring, the softball team is at the Moyer Complex against Cave Spring and both soccer teams play the Squires, with the girls at home and the boys at Cave Spring.
TRACK
The Lewis track team has a home meet today at Salem High School. The Wolverines competed at Northside last Wednesday and the girls were led by top scorer Zoe Robtison, who won the 100 meter dash. Neelah Logan won the 200 meter dash, while Kaitlyn Crumpacker won the 800 meter run. The 400 meter relay team of Robtison, Logan, Kaitlyn Creger, and My’La Green remain undefeated on the year.
The boys were led by double winner Jaime Lingenfelter, who won the 300 meter hurdles and the triple jump. George Copeland won the Shot Put and Daron Wilson won the High Jump. The 1600 meter relay team of Boone Fleenor, Tommy Henezy, Nash Lakin, and Braydon Taylor were also winners.
BASEBALL
Last week the Wolverine Baseball Team experienced joy and pathos in equal measure, taking a 6-4 decision against Read Mountain, only to drop a contest at Hidden Valley, by the reverse score.
On Wednesday, Lewis jumped out to a 4-0 lead, only to see it evaporate into a tie, in the second inning. Camden Hart threw an efficient first frame, only to see one recorded out in the second, yielding to reliever, Ben Bowers, who pitched very well, holding the visitors scoreless, the rest of the way. Lewis scrapped for two late runs, to hold on for the win..
Thursday found the Wolverines at Hidden Valley, down in the home half of the first by a 3-0 score. In the next two innings the two squads traded runs. Lewis added their second run in the third, to stay close. Hunter Bayne threw well enough to get a win, but the bats did not support him, before he gave way to reliever, Trent Judd. Hidden Valley added to their lead, in their final at-bat, with a two-run homer to center. In their final half, Lewis scratched for two runs, giving Hidden Valley a scare, before falling to the hosts by a 6-4 tally.
“We are starting to sting the ball, and our defense has been solid, lately. I feel good about where and who we are, as we enter the final two weeks of our season,” said Lewis Coach Greg Gallion.
SOFTBALL
Lewis split two softball games, losing to Read Mountain, 17-2, but bouncing back to beat Hidden Valley, 12-2.
Against Read Mountain Hannah McNeil and Gabby Vazquez scored runs and all three pitchers pitched: Lily Lawson, Sydney Price, and Bayleigh Booth.
Against Hidden Valley Lawson, Allie Mitchem, Alayna Jordan, and Yasmiyah Ashwell had two hits each. Booth pitched and had four strikeouts as Lewis improved to 2-5.
SOCCER
In soccer, the Lewis boys beat Read Mountain, 5-0, Hidden Valley, 3-0, and Central Academy, 7-2 . The boys are 9-0-1 afer 10 games.
The girls lost to Read Mountain, 5-0, and are still looking for a win.
“Even though our team still has not won a game this season, the girls have found the ability to stay positive, and keep getting better,” said coach Bob Palleria. “While we haven’t won, we continue to have fun playing and practicing, and if the girls keep the positive attitude that they have all season, we will get a win soon.”
