It was a rough week for the local tennis teams, both from the weather and the opponents.
Salem High tennis teams took on some tough competition as the girls lost to Hidden Valley, 8-1, then fell to Radford and Blacksburg, both by scores of 9-0. Radford is the defending Class 2A state champ and Blacksburg is one of the top teams around.
“The only good thing is that it still takes two and a half to three hours to beat us,” said coach Mike Gibson. “We are in a lot of matches, we just can’t turn the corner.”
Salem’s boys also lost to Blacksburg by a 9-0 score.
At Glenvar, the girls lost to Alleghany, 8-1, after falling to Giles and Carroll both by 9-0 scores. The girls beat Floyd, 7-2, and singles winners were Hannah Yando, Hannah Greene, Adelia Mau and Jasmine Eaton.
The boys were weathered out of a match at Giles on Monday and that was rescheduled for this Friday at Giles.
