The Glenvar softball team will play host to traditional rival James River today in a 5 pm game at the Highlanders’ field.

Glenvar is 6-4 after splitting two games and getting rained out of another. The Highlanders were scheduled to play at Radford on Tuesday of this week but that game was rained out and rescheduled for Monday, May 7.

Last Wednesday the Highlanders dropped an 11-10 decision to Northside at Northside. In the first inning Northside quickly built up a three-run lead on a three-run homer by Kayla Gibson, but in the second inning Glenvar fought back, scoring three runs, then added another run in the third to take the lead.

In the fourth inning Northside put up five runs and regained the lead at 8-4.  Glenvar fought hard and put up six additional runs between the sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn’t enough.

Katherine Ward led Glenvar with three hits and three RBIs.  Lydia Taylor had three hits and an RBI.    McKenna Shearer and Olivia Adams added two hits each and Courtney Raines added a hit and two RBIs.

The Highlanders bounced back with a 13-0 shutout over the Cougars in Covington Friday. Raines threw a complete game shut-out, holding Covington to three hits over five innings. Courtney improves her pitching record to 6-0 with the win.

Taylor led the hitting, going four-for-four with a two-run homer in the second inning.  She ended the game with five RBIs.  Ward also had two hits and two RBIs and Shearer had two hits and an RBI.  Olivia Adams and Maddie Martinez also had two hits each.

The Highlanders are scheduled to play host to Carroll County on Friday.
