The Salem High softball team beat two River Ridge District foes in the past week, defeating Patrick Henry and Christiansburg.

The Spartans were at Christiansburg Monday, where they took a 7-6 come-from-behind win. Salem trailed by two runs into the seventh but scored three times as Lauren Moran drove in two runs and Kendra Bolen hit an RBI double to give Salem the lead. Reagan Owens then put the Demons away with a strong bottom of the seventh on the mound.

“It was a great team win and the girls are continuing to show improvement each game,” said coach John Counts. “They’re playing great team ball.”

Moran and Bolen led the offense, as both had solo home runs before their heroics in the seventh. Owens had five strikeouts and walked just one to pick up the win.

Last Friday the Spartans beat Patrick Henry in Salem, 14-3. Liz Warren had a three-run homer and Moran had a two-run shot to pace the Spartans. Maggie King was four-for-four with two runs scored and two driven home.

Owens picked up another win, allowing no earned runs. She struck out nine.

The two wins improved Salem’s record to 5-8 and the Spartans were scheduled to host Pulaski County on Wednesday. On Friday the girls go to Hidden Valley.
