Jeff Bird prepares to make the move into Administration

Salem School Division Superintendent, Dr. Alan Seibert, is pleased to announce that Jeff Bird has been named an assistant principal at Salem High School.

Bird received formal approval from the School Board at its May 8 meeting. This administrative position of Assistant Principal at the high school and Division Coordinator of Assessment was made possible by restructuring and repurposing current leadership positions in the division.

“It has been a privilege to have taught mathematics at Salem High School over the past 17 years, and I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve the Salem community in this new role,” says Bird.

Bird joined the Salem City School Division in 2001 after spending the first three years of his teaching career at Pulaski County High School. The Lynchburg native earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Virginia Tech. In 2015, he completed the requirements for his Master of Arts in Education while majoring in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech.

“For 17 years, Jeff has been a valuable member of the Spartan Family,” says Scott Habeeb, Salem High School Principal. “Jeff continuously seeks to grow professionally, he is never afraid to try something new and he always works to serve his students both in-and-out of the classroom. I have complete confidence that these same traits will enable Jeff to be a wonderful assistant principal.”

Bird and his wife, Tyla, live in Christiansburg with their three children who are ages 6, 12 and 15. He will join Habeeb, Chris Wilkes and Bridget Nelson to form Salem’s administrative team, effective July 1.
