The Salem Red Sox are on the road for a six day trip to Winston-Salem and Myrtle Beach. The Sox are in Winston-Salem through today, then play a three game series with Myrtle Beach beginning Friday.
Salem went into the trip with a 26-27 record. Last Sunday the Sox concluded a six game homestand, going 3-0 against Potomac and 1-2 against Wilmington while dodging rain at every turn. Five times games were postponed, cancelled or suspended.
On Sunday the Sox missed out on a chance to close the gap in the Northern Division standings with a 5-4 loss to Wilmington on a day first place Potomac lost. Through Monday’s off day the Nationals led the Northern Division with Lynchburg just a game behind and Salem a game and a half out.
The first half of the Carolina League season concludes on Sunday, June 17, and the first half winners clinch a spot in the Mills Cup Playoffs in September. Salem concludes the first half with a home series against Potomac, beginning next Monday, June 11, followed by a four game series at Lynchburg to close out the half.
