The Virginia High School League has been announcing All-State teams in the past week and both Salem and Glenvar High School have players on the teams.
Salem’s state runnerup lacrosse team had the Class 4 Player of the Year in senior Lilly Blair. Lilly tied for second all-time in goals scored during her career and will be headed to Roanoke College to play next year.
Salem also had the state Coach of the Year in Maggi Pace, a former Spartan player. Senior Maddie Bowman is the first team all-state goalie, Charity Hall was named first team defender and Madi Caldwell, a sophomore, was named first team at attack.
The Spartans had two girls named to the second team, senior Kara Yates at attack and sophomore midfielder Libby Bowman.
Salem’s Class 4 state champion baseball team was shut out from all-state honors. That wasn’t a point of concern to Spartan coach Wes McMillan.
“We got the honor we wanted,” said McMillan.
Glenvar had one athlete on an all-state team, and she’s just a freshman. Lydia Taylor of Glenvar was one of just two freshman named to the Class 2 All-State team. Lydia is a second team selection at the “Flex” position.
