Roanoke College student-athletes were well-represented when the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its annual academic awards last week. The Maroons placed 139 student-athletes on the 2017-18 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) All-Academic Team.

RC had the sixth most athletes on the team among the 16 member schools and was just one of two schools in the top-six that do not sponsor football. As a whole, the ODAC’s 14 full-time and two associate members combined to put a record 1,994 student-athletes on the list.

Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team is open to any student-athlete that competes in a conference-sponsored sport, regardless of academic class.  He or she must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to be considered for an ODAC All-Academic Award.

In addition, Roanoke College junior Katie Clements was named to the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.  The IWLCA honored 631 student-athletes from 187 different institutions on the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

A health and human performance major, Clements was named Third-Team All-ODAC following the 2018 season. Clements finished the season with 31 goals and four assists despite missing the final four games of the season due to injury.

Also, the Roanoke College Women’s Track & Field Team has been honored as an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In order to be named USTFCCA All-Academic, a team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 for the year. The Maroons wrapped up the 2017-18 academic year with a combined 3.20 GPA.

The Maroons were one of 291 men’s and women’s teams in D-III to earn an All-Academic Team recognition.
