SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6 The Speed Trend Society Star City Fallout Car Show will take place from 12 pm to 5 pm at the Salem Civic Center. There will be live music, giveaways, models, vendors, food trucks and much more! Registration pricing: $15 per vehicle parking – includes a free decal, $40 per VIP parking – includes a free t-shirt and decal and $20 day of the show per vehicle.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9 From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Salem’s Parkway Brewing Company, a Zombie Walk & Bash to stop the pipelines will take place. Popular Bluegrass band Blue Mule will provide music. This fundraising event will raise money to support #PipelineScam efforts while having a good time! Everyone is invited to attend in costume, take the Zombie walk, present a skit, dance, socialize, drink beer and raise money for front-line water protectors who’ve been confronting zombie pipelines have legal expenses. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11 October is National Roller Skating Month! And as part of a nationwide initiative, rink operators are offering a free Learn 2 Skate Class, because skating is more fun (and safer) when you’re good at it! The Skate Center of Roanoke Valley will hold a free class from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13 The Compassionate Friends of Roanoke Valley will host their Annual Walk to Remember at Wasena Park in Roanoke. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Program begins at 11 a.m. The program includes an opening ceremony with a dove release sponsored by John M. Oakey and Sons, followed by a one-mile walk and potluck picnic. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided. This is an annual fundraiser for TCF. We will be accepting Gifts of Love in memory of our children who have died. All donations are greatly appreciated and will be used locally to help families who have experienced the loss of a child at any age and from any cause.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 22 The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce is presenting a Virginia 9th District U.S. Congressional Debate between Congressman Morgan Griffith and candidate Anthony Flaccavento in the Community Room of the Salem Civic Center from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The debate precedes the election that will take place on Tuesday, November 6. The moderator will be Dr. Harry Wilson, professor, chairperson, and director for policy for institute for policy and opinion research of Roanoke College.
