Edwin (Ed) Kelly Harless and Bernice (Bunny) John Harless will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on October 14, 2018.

Edwin is a Navy Veteran who is presently residing at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. He graduated from Shawsville High School and Roanoke College where he is a member of the Hall of Fame for his talent in basketball. He taught and coached at Andrew Lewis High School for several years before he settled into a long career with State Farm Insurance. Bernice also grew up in Shawsville and graduated from Shawsville High School. She was a stay-at-home mother who took much pride in the household. She was an excellent cook (famous for her cookies), a talented seamstress and a master of organization. Together they raised three children; David Harless is a retired engineer from the VA Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina. Paul Harless is a retired nuclear engineer in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Janet Kubik is a retired teacher from the Salem City Schools. -Submitted by Janet Kubik
