LewisGale Regional Health System recently announced that Cynthia Akers, RN, MSN, has assumed the role of chief nursing officer at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.
Prior to her new position, she served as the director of the surgical intensive care unit and the surgical progressive care unit at Salem’s LewisGale Medical Center. Her career has entailed working in a variety of leadership positions as a staff nurse, administrator and clinical coordinator within various intensive care units throughout the hospital.
Akers began her nursing career at LewisGale Medical Center in 2002 as a licensed practical nurse. She has since become a registered nurse and received her Master of Science degree in nursing.
Roanoke native Tiffanie Becker has been named LewisGale Medical Center’s oncology nurse navigator for Sarah Cannon, the Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare. Sarah Cannon offers integrated cancer treatments with convenient access to cutting-edge therapies for those facing cancer in communities across the United States and United Kingdom.
In her new position, Becker will assist both physicians and patients in scheduling appointments, support patients to ensure they remain compliant with their individualized treatment plans, and inform the physicians and team of possible barriers related to care. Becker has spent her entire career in the oncology field. Prior to her new assignment, she spent two years as an oncology nurse navigator for Blue Ridge Cancer Care. She started her career as a clinical coordinator, team leader and inpatient nurse on the oncology unit at LewisGale Medical Center.
