The Rotary Club of Glenvar has done it again – swelling its ranks by inducting four new members.
President John King, members, family and guests welcomed the new Rotarians with fun balloons, hats, ties and “gold medals” personalized with inductees’ names on them, and a decorated cake at the Nov. 13 meeting of the club.
New members are Jordan Gibson, a financial advisor with Edward Jones who is moving her office to Glenvar soon; Jeff Hux, general sales manager of Berglund Automotive Group of Roanoke; Mark Mitchell, insurance specialist with AAA Mid-Atlantic, and Melissa Harden, branch manager of Skyline National Bank in Salem. Harden is the first corporate member for the club, meaning that other Skyline staff members may attend meetings at times.
Gibson was sponsored by Glenvar Rotarian Lewis Barker of Barker Realty, Hux by King of Specialty Saw & Mower, Mitchell by Rotarian Fred Hotze of Hot-Z productions and Harden of Specialty Saw & Mower.
Salem Rotarian Joe Ferguson, who is a former Rotary District Governor, represented current District Governor George Karnes in welcoming the new members. He told them, “The best is yet to come,” referring to a story about a church lady who asked to be buried with fork in hand symbolizing that something especially good was coming at the end of a meal.
Family members present for the induction were Harden’s husband Jason, and Hux’s wife, Debbie.
The Rotary Club of Glenvar provides scholarships to Glenvar High School students, sponsors a Challenger League Baseball team – the Rotary A’s – and other local charitable causes.
The club is 20 years old, and meets on Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. for lunch in the meeting room of Richfield Recovery and Care on West Main Street. Earlier this fall, the club inducted three new members. Visitors and people interested in becoming Glenvar Rotary Club members are welcome to attend.
