Last week, former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sent a letter to John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Salem. It read:
Dear Russ:
Laura and I thank you for your kind letter and for the guestbook signed by visitors of the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home and Crematory. The Bush family appreciates your sympathies and all you did to pay tribute to Dad.
George H.W. Bush was a great man, a great father and a great President. He showed us how to make the most of every minute of every day and serve a cause greater than self. To us, he was the brightest of a thousand points of life.
We give thanks to God for George H.W. Bush and for the many who have prayed for him for us.
