The William Byrd lacrosse teams have been busy as the girls have played two games in the past week and boys had three.
The highlight of the week was a 20-4 win by the girls over the Blue Demons in Christiansburg last week. The offense was led by Chloe Pascoe with nine goals and Trinity Hylton added four. The defense was led by freshman goalie Haley Firebaugh with nine saves and rookie Anae Perez with three ground balls and an assist.
“Our midfield totally dominated the middle with 20 draw controls between Trinity Hylton, Ashlyn Stover and RoAnna Hylton,” said Byrd coach Dan Eberhardt.
The girls lost at Franklin County Monday, 16-7. Emmy Harris had three goals and Bishop Buck had a good game with five ground balls and one interception.
“We struggled at the start, giving up five goals in the first five minutes, but once the girls settled down and found their grove we were able to claw our way back,” said Eberhardt. “Unfortunately penalties got the best of us in the second half and we gave up six goals due to penalties.”
The boys dropped three games, losing 18-1 to Christiansburg, 20-3 to Cave Spring and 19-0 to Franklin County. Sophomore Jerze Webb had two goals against Cave Spring.
The Terriers are back in action today with a doubleheader at William Fleming. The boys will open the twin bill at 5:30 pm with the girls to follow.
