Cleo Edward Boyd, 86, of Salem, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 25. He was born on September 29, 1933, in Patrick County, Va. to the late Chostly Rucker and Lakie Lovell Boyd.
Prior to retiring, Cleo served his fellow Salemites as a barber, with over 60 plus years of service. He was the owner and operator of Boyd’s Barbershop, located off Eighth Street. He was well-known in the community for having an extraordinarily strong work ethic. Cleo enjoyed being on his mower so he could sing and gather his thoughts. He loved square dancing, telling jokes, and listening to bluegrass gospel music. Cleo was a dedicated and faithful church member, and Deacon of Faith Baptist Church in Salem. Most of all he was a loving and faithful husband, father, and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Cleo was preceded in death by first wife, Margaret Marie Jones Boyd; and two brothers, Clifford and Alfred Boyd.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 17 years, Dianne Boyd of Roanoke; sons, Benjamin E. Boyd (Tammie), David R. Boyd (Robin), Kevin Robinson (Amanda); grandson, Nathan Robinson all of Roanoke; sister, Nellie “Nell” Crump of Providence Forge, Va.; brother, Billy Boyd (Darlene) of Mayodan, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and his loving chihuahua, “Spike.”
The family received friends on Friday, May 29, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Salem.
Per the family’s wishes, all other services, including interment at Sherwood Memorial Park, will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to Faith Baptist Church, C/O the Cleo Boyd fund, 900 8th St, Salem, VA 24153.
