The Roanoke College women’s soccer team opened the ODAC tournament with a 1-0 win over Randolph-Macon at Salem’s Kerr Stadium Tuesday. The Maroons are the third seed in the eight team tournament and will advance to the second round Friday against second seeded Bridgewater.
The Washington & Lee women are the top seed in the tournament, and all the games are at the sites of the higher seeds. The Maroons advanced when Emme Woods found net on a free kick in the first half, and that was the only goal of the game. Carrington Lippi recorded the shutout in the goal.
The Maroons ended the regular season with a 2-0 win over Lynchburg last Saturday at Kerr Stadium in Salem. Roanoke got on the board about mid-way through the first half when Ellie Schad scored an unassisted goal from right in front of the net to make it 1-0. Lippi stopped both Hornet shots that were on goal to give the Maroons a 1-0 advantage at the break.
At the 52:50 mark, Roanoke was awarded a corner kick. Woods sent a perfect ball into the box where Lucy Perry headed it to the top of the net for a 2-0 lead, and that lead stood up for the victory. Lippi wrapped up the win by recording saves on each of the Hornets five shots on goal.
Tuesday’s win gave the Maroons a 7-2-1 overall record.
