The Salem AAA Dixie League All-Stars were eliminated by Brookneal in last week’s state Division 2 tournament in Madison Heights. The AAA division is for 10 and under players.
Salem split the first two games in the double elimination tournament, then lost 11-1 to a strong Brookneal team. Salem trailed just 2-1 after three innings before Brookneal pulled away. Lefty Nate Keffer itched the first three innings and allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out four.
“Given the fact that our team was made up of nine second and third graders we held our own against much older teams,” said coach Kendall Keffer. “This is going to be a special group for years to come…the future is bright for Salem baseball.”
