The Glenvar girls defeated Giles in just their fourth match of the season Monday. Glenvar won in three sets, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-10 at GHS.
“It was only our fourth match but it was the ninth match for Giles,” said GHS coach Mark Rohrback of the 4-5 Spartans. “That’s a big difference, especially with some changes we’ve made to our offense. We need to play.”
Glenvar’s game at Northside was postponed last Thursday due to COVID amidst the Vikings and rescheduled for September 29. The Highlanders also lost two games against Covington due to COVID.
On Monday, they got back on the court for the first time in a week with the win over Giles. Cara Butler had 18 assits and 15 digs, Claire Griffith had 13 kills, 11 digs and three blocks and Sydney Loder had six kills and two blocks.
The Highlanders were scheduled to play at Auburn on Wednesday but results were too late for publication. Glenvar lost to the Eagles in a prior match at GHS in five sets.
“That loss to Auburn really stings, even though they’re one of the premier programs in the area,” said Rohrback.
Glenvar is back home next Monday, September 20, to play host to William Byrd.
