The Region 2C golf tournament was held at the Olde Mill Golf Resort in Carroll County on Tuesday and Glenvar’s Jacson Shepherd qualified for the Class 2 state tournament. The Highlanders missed qualifying for the state by just four strokes.
“It was a good teachable moment on how every shot matters,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “I was super proud of the group. I was really proud of Jacson for bouncing back from a tough double bogey on hole 17 and making birdie on hole 18 to finish and punch his ticket to state.”
The Class 2 state tournament will also be at Olde Mill on October 10th.
Last Thursday the Highlanders wrapped up the regular season with a four-team match at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club in Daleville. Greenbriar East won the round with a score of 324 followed by James River at 342, Glenvar at 348 and Alleghany with a 363.
Shepherd had Glenvar’s best score with and 83. Adam Franklin shot 85, followed by Mason Hylton at 89 and Brendan Magruder at 91.
“Adam Franklin stepped up and shot his best round,” said Duff. “We’ve had steady play from our seniors, led by Jacson Shepherd, Mason Hylton and Brendan Magruder. We have a really good mix of older guys who are helping bring the younger guys along and I have been impressed with the growth of our younger players.
