The Glenvar girls’ volleyball team had what may be their toughest test of the regular season Tuesday night and the girls came out on top with a Three Rivers District win over Carroll County. The win lifted the Highlanders to 10-0 on the season as they downed the Cavaliers in three sets, 25-16, 28-26 and 25-17. Claire Griffith had 17 kills for Glenvar while Audrey Conner had 40 assists and Ryan Harris had 11 blocks in the big win.
Glenvar was home a night prior to take on a Giles team that had given them a tough match in Pearisburg two weeks prior. This time the Highlanders took control early and hammered the Spartans in three sets, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-18.
“I was pleased with the overall team performance as well as each individual effort tonight in win against a good Giles team,” said Rohrback.
Audrey Conner had 33 assists and three aces for the Highlanders. Griffith had a dozen kills and six blocks for the Highlanders while Harris had six kills and seven blocks.
Last Wednesday the Highlanders were at Auburn for a battle of programs that had won state championships in their division last year, Glenvar in Class 2 and Auburn in Class 1. Auburn was one of the few teams to beat Glenvar last year but this time it was all Highlanders as Glenvar took a three set win, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-18.
“We played well and got a nice win on the road, with everyone contributing,” said Rohrback. “Overall, the team continues to improve in all areas and we are playing solid fundamental volleyball, as well as pushing the upper levels of both the offensive and defensive concepts we have been working on this season.”
Hannah Hylton had nine kills and 18 digs for Glenvar while Natalie McMahon had eight kills. Sydney Loder had six kills, six blocks and a pair of aces.
The Highlanders will be back on the road tonight to take on James River in a district match.
