S. C. Markley Head of County 100 Anniversary
President of Comas Cigarette Machine Company – Graduate of Yale – Native of County

The gentleman of whose shoulders rests a great part of the burden of directing the Roanoke County Centennial Celebration next month, as president of the commission, is S. Chester Markley of Roanoke and Salem.
Mr. Markley, who is head of the Comas Cigarette Machine Company, Salem, has spent the greater portion of his life in Roanoke County. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Markley, former well known residents of Roanoke.
At Yale
After being educated in the public schools of this section, Mr. Markley enrolled in Roanoke College, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from that institution. Wishing to pursue the study of civil engineering, Mr. Markley later enrolled in Yale University and received his Master of Arts from that institution; he then entered business as a Certified Professional Civil Engineer, practicing as a Hydraulic and Civil Engineer as a partner in the firm of C. Markley and Son, Contractors, of Roanoke.
