A structure fire at 1236 West Main Street in Salem early Saturday morning caused significant damage to the structure and injured an occupant, according to a new release from the Salem Fire & EMS Department.
The department said it responded to the fire at approximately 4:07 a.m.
The first units arrived within six minutes of receiving the 911 call and found a fire on the first floor of the building.
“The fire quickly spread to the attic, but fire crews were able to bring it under control within 15 minutes,” the release said.
One person was in the building at the time of the fire. The individual was transported to LewisGale Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the fire as being accidental on Saturday. The damage caused by the fire was estimated to be around $200,000.
Approximately 26 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department and the Roanoke Fire & EMS Department responded to the call.
