Congressional Town Hall: Residents of Salem are invited to a town hall event with Congressman Ben Cline (VA-06) next week. This town hall event is an opportunity for residents of Salem to engage in a dialogue with Rep. Cline about important issues in Virginia’s Sixth Congressional District. The Salem town hall will take place Thursday, Feb. 16, from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Lydia’s Italian Kitchen, located at 1713 Riverview Dr., Salem, VA 24153. In order to accommodate the diverse schedules of Sixth District constituents, Rep. Ridge View Bank Ribbon Cutting: Ridge View Bank will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its first full-service SMART Center office in Salem, Virginia at 124 West Main Street. The SMART Center concept is focused on customer interaction and advanced technology and is one of several Ridge View Banks has planned for the immediate future. The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Craft and Vendor Fair: The Craft and Vendor Fair hosted by the Lambda Chapter of VA Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Sorority is set to make its return this year after taking several years off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last fair was held in 2020. This year’s fair will be at Andrew Lewis Middle School on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The inclement weather date is Feb. 25. Admission is free.
Theatre Roanoke College Winter Production: “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde: The event will be Feb. 23- 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Theater It is directed by Danielle Barre. Jack and Algernon are both trying to woo their lady loves. The two charming young ladies – sophisticated Gwendolen from the city and naive Cecily from the country – are in love with Earnest Worthing. But there is no such person as Earnest Worthing. Gwendolen thinks Jack is Earnest, and Cecily thinks Algernon is Earnest. Each girl swears that she could never love a man who wasn’t named Earnest. In the midst of all this confusion comes Lady Bracknell, who doesn’t like the idea of anybody loving anybody. Wilde unwinds this knotty affair into one of the favorite comedies of English literature.
