3rd Annual Salem Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show: The event is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, May 26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, May 27 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, May 28 at the Salem Civic Center. Attendance is $8 for adults, $3 for ages 11-17 and free for ages 10 and under with a paying adult. Tickets are good for all three days.
Memorial Day Weekend: Fallen Defenders—Past to Present: On Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., experience a unique display of military uniforms and Fallen Soldier Battle Crosses. The display will represent almost every major conflict in American history from the Revolutionary War through Operation Inherent Resolve. The display will be set up on the grounds of the Salem Museum and is presented by the 24th Virginia Infantry Living Historians, who will be onsite to answer questions. This event at the Salem Museum is free and open to the public.
Traditionally, in conflicts past, the spot where a soldier or a marine fell in battle was marked by a helmet placed on a rifle with its bayonet thrust into the ground. This marker was a powerful symbol of respect, but also of courage, sacrifice and loss.
Salem Museum Gardens: The Salem Museum is holding an informational session for anyone interested in gardening. Participants meet at 10 a.m. on June 7 at the Museum: 801 E Main Street. Afterward, they’ll move down Main Street to the Museum’s other home, the Preston Place, at 1936 W Main St to tour the gardens there.
Speaker Series: Protecting the lands and waters we love: The Roanoke Valley is situated in a region of great natural beauty, enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The Blue Ridge Land Conservancy (BRLC) is working to ensure that the landscapes we love will be here to be enjoyed by generations to come. On Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Salem Museum, David Perry of the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy will describe the organization’s work to forever protect the lands and waters that make such a difference in our quality of life.

2023 Movies at Longwood: “Minions The Rise of Gru” will be shown on June 16 at Longwood Park. The movie will begin at dusk, around 8:30 p.m., and admission is free for all ages.
We The Kingdom: Grammy-nominated Contemporary Christian band We The Kingdom is set to take over the Salem Civic Center on Saturday night, June 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25.50, $37.50, $47.50, $71.50 and $99.50 for VIP packages. Preferred parking is $10.
Senior Safety Session: Join Salem Sheriff April Staton at 11 a.m. on June 20 at the Salem Public Library for a presentation directed at seniors to learn more about scams. Salem Fair: The Salem fair will be at the Salem Civic Center June 28-July 9. It will be open from 4-11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12-11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
