The Roanoke College cross country team wrapped up the season with a run in the NCAA South Region meet in Mount Berry, GA last Saturday. The Maroons finished 16th and the women were 19th. Matt Garis paced the Maroon men with a mark of 27:37.6 in the 8K race, logging 81 points. Roanoke’s other four scoring runners all completed the race in roughly a 16-second span.
Josh Woodley led that pack of Maroons with a time of 28:00.7, totaling 91 points. Ian Fellows secured 93 points after finishing in 28:04.3. Levi Counts (28:11.9) and RJ Birdsall (28:16.8) came in backto-back with 97 and 98 points. Lynchburg ran away with the men’s team title, posting a score of 37 points, while fellow ODAC rival Washington and Lee placed second. The Hornets’ Frank Csorba finished first overall in 24:27.2. Evelyn Magee led the RC women with a time of 26:04.5 in the 6K race, scoring 94 points. Sarah Kochanski finished close behind, clocking in at 26:16.3 and logging 97 points.
Madeleine Rhyne followed with 109 points, completing the race in 27:18.2, while Molly McCroskey’s time of 27:30.7 was good for 111 points. McCroskey is a Glenvar grad. Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Lynchburg won the team title on a tiebreaker with Emory, as both squads finished with 40 points. The Hornets’ Kayla Werner was the individual titlist, running a time of 21:18.6.
