The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure on the evening of Wednesday, May 8 at approximately 7:22 p.m. Firefighters arrived at 1006 Tennessee Street, made entry into the building, and discovered a box truck parked inside the warehouse that was on fire, according to a city news release.
The first units arrived within four minutes of receiving the call and found heavy smoke coming from the one-story structure. Crews immediately began an interior fire attack and a primary search of the building. They were able to bring the fire under control within 12 minutes of their arrival and they kept the fire from spreading beyond the truck to other parts of the building. One occupant was taken to LewisGale Medical Center due to possible smoke inhalation.
Approximately 19 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Rescue 801, Medic 802, Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) responded to the call.
According to the release, the fire would be investigated by the Salem Fire Marshal’s Office and no damage estimate was available.
