Salem’s Libby Bowman is Honorable Mention D-III All-American

The Roanoke women’s lacrosse team will travel to Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. this weekend for regional play in the NCAA Division III Championship. The 12th-ranked Maroons (17- 4) will square off against the thirdranked Diplomats (17-3) in the third round at 1 pm Saturday. The other regional semifinal matchup will feature No. 4 Tufts (15-3) taking on Denison (15-4) at 4 pm. Saturday’s winners will meet in the quarterfinal round at 2:30 pm Sunday at Franklin & Marshall.

Last week, on the tournament’s opening weekend in Columbus, Ohio, Roanoke defeated Hope (Mich.), 24-6, in the first round and then claimed a 20-11 victory over host Capital University in the second round. Salem’s Libby Bowman had seven goals against Capital and Kate Loughran had six. The two victories propelled the Maroons into the regional weekend for the first time since 2009. The Diplomats defeated St. Mary’s (Md.) 19-7 in the second round at home on Sunday. Tufts recorded a 15-11 road victory over No. 10 The College of New Jersey, while Denison advanced courtesy of a 13-6 home win against Scranton.

The winner of Sunday’s regional final will head to Salem for the national semifinals. Roanoke will play host to the Division III Final Four at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on May 24 and 26. Also last week USA Lacrosse revealed its NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse All-Americans and Roanoke College senior Bowman received honorable mention.

All-Americans are chosen by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors with input from coaches and conferences across the country. Bowman, a three-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection, has logged 49 goals and 16 assists on the season. She was named to the ODAC AllTournament team after scoring six goals in two conference postseason games, including five m in the Maroons’ 14-3 semifinal win over Shenandoah.
