Nancy Louise King, 78, of Salem, Va., passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was born on December 3, 1945, to the late Charles and Alma Trent.
A lifelong member of the Women of the Moose, Nancy’s commitment to fellowship and service was evident in everything she did. She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, and the outdoors. Nancy found peace and excitement in hunting, fishing, and spending time at Smith Mountain Lake that reflected her adventurous spirit. Nancy’s love for animals was profound, especially for her cherished pets, “Tiny” and “Bubba.” Her home was a haven not only for her furry friends but also for anyone who crossed her threshold. Known for her thoughtfulness, Nancy had a unique way of making everyone feel special, often sending visitors home with a token of her kindness. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate circle. She loved cooking and sending food home to family and friends. Nancy was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true essence of selflessness. Her considerate nature and ability to anticipate the needs of others were hallmarks of her character. Music and shopping were among Nancy’s favorite pastimes. She had an appreciation for good music that could lift the spirits, and she found joy in the simple pleasure of browsing through goodwill stores, always on the lookout for treasures to share.
Above all, Nancy’s greatest passion was supporting her family and friends. She was their unwavering rock, their source of comfort, and their greatest cheerleader. Her love knew no bounds, and it is this love that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “John” King; brother, Charles Junior Trent, and Robert James Trent.
Nancy’s life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and the community. She is survived by her adoring son, John King (Joanne Maitland); her beloved daughter, Vicky King; and her cherished grandson, Hunter King. Nancy’s memory will also be treasured by her sisters, Shirley Manning and Margaret Clark, along with numerous extended family members and a host of friends who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastors Andrew Draughn and Leonard Southern officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the funeral home.
